Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution Roadster Debuts With 1817 HP
Hennessey has promised a debut involving the Venom F5 on August 18 during Monterey Auto Week. Apparently it’s about a human reveal, as we get all the information on the new Hennessey F5 Revolution Roadster, ten days before it appears at The Quail. As expected, Hennessey has given its open-top hypercar the same track-focused aerodynamic upgrade we saw in January with the debut of the Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution hardtop.
The car was actually teased in May, when Hennessey shared a photo on Facebook of CEO John Hennessey standing next to a black Venom F5 with NBA legend Michael Jordan. The message says that the car is “a special Hennessey Venom F5 for a special friend” and now we understand why. Only part of the car is visible in the photo, but it looks just like the Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution Roadster we see now, right down to the black finish with yellow trim. If you’re familiar with the Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution, you won’t find any visual surprises in the Revolution Roadster.
It gets new fascias with large splitters and diffusers, a large rear wing and air intakes on the clip-on front. And yes, there is a room for the engine even though the roof of the car is removable. It is attached to the engine cover and a bit that covers the cockpit when the single tower is extended. Speaking of which, the roof of the Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution Roadster is made of solid carbon fiber and is lined with Alcantara on the inside. Hennessey says it’s secured in an upright position with high-strength latches and weighs just 18 pounds for easy removal. Besides that, the Texas company explains that the Roadster is “completely modified compared to its brother of the coupe”, although the changes are not explained exactly.
The 6.6-liter twin-turbo V8 engine is the same as before, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Developing 1,817 horsepower, the Hennessey Venom F5 lives in rarefied air with a top speed that can exceed 300 mph. Official attempts at top speed have yet to be made, but with the added aerodynamics of the convertible, it’s unlikely that this track-focused version — whether coupe or convertible — will be capable of such speeds. Hennessey will only build 12 F5 Revolution Roadsters at a price of $3 million each, they are already sold.
The company’s Facebook post from May suggests that Michael Jordan owns the first, although a Hennessey spokesperson could not confirm this. However, we can confirm that each F5 Revolution Roadster will be unique, with different color and finish combinations. The car seen here is the first of five Carbon Fiber models, featuring exposed carbon fiber and yellow trim.
