The 2025 Volkswagen Atlas will likely remain unchanged after a major update for 2024. Recent updates include a revised front end, a larger interior screen and a more powerful standard engine to replace the previously optional V6. Volkswagen is producing a new Atlas for the 2026 or 2027 model year, possibly incorporating electric power.

The current Atlas seats seven people across three rows and offers 96.8 cubic feet of cargo space, making it one of the most affordable cars in its class. The cabin has a second-row executive seat, a 12-inch touchscreen, a 10.3-inch instrument display, and a wireless charger. Volkswagen also offers a version of the Atlas in two lines called the Cross Sport.

We expect the 2025 Atlas to retain the updated 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which produces 269 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is optional on the entry-level SE model and standard on other trims. Every Atlas has an eight-speed automatic transmission.

In standard front-wheel-drive configuration, the Atlas is EPA-rated at 20 miles per gallon city, 27 mpg highway and 23 combined. Each degree is reduced by 1 mpg with all-wheel drive. Fully equipped, the Atlas can tow up to 5,000 pounds. Like the current model, the Atlas 2025 will be able to feature Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive safety technology company.

The system includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking. Other advanced features such as automatic parking and a rearview camera will be optional. The current Atlas receives a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA. The IIHS rated the Atlas “Good” in most crash tests, though it earns a “Marginal” rating in the enhanced moderate-impact crash test.

Volkswagen hasn’t released pricing, but we expect a slight MSRP increase for 2025. Prices for the Atlas now start at $39,075, including destination, and reach $53,805 for the full SEL Premium R-Line. The Atlas competes with the likes of the Ford Explorer, Mazda CX-90, Honda Pilot and Kia Telluride. Based on Volkswagen current production schedule, we expect the 2025 Atlas to hit the market this summer. We will bring you more updates on Atlas as we get closer to the release date.
